Key Note: Multiple Representations
Many have grown up with only one representation of math and it can be anxiety-inducing, scary and intimidating.  However, multiple representations of mathematics builds a deeper conceptual knowledge, relates different representations to one another; and elevates the perception of mathematics as an integrated whole.
How does this idea also ring true when we only have one bland representation of what a school, a classroom, a student, a teacher, a leader, or even what Professional Development is?
Ed will share his story as a high school math educator and his experiences with the CUE and his CUE affiliate to show how it’s reinforced and strengthened the importance of Multiple Representations.
Represent and Multiply.

Reimagine the Student Notebook!
ReIMAGINE the paper binder as a digital learning and creation space! This will introduce you to the idea of using Google Tools instead of a paper binder with your students.

Studies show that students learn well by keeping and maintaining a notebook with all their work. The problem? It's messy and the work gets misplaced or worse, lost. This session will show how to take this notebook and turn it digital. Not to mention easier grading on the teacher end! No more packets!

SAMR Model will be applied to this session, and Hyperdocs and Google Slides are incorporated. Participants will walk away with templates and resources to create their own.

2020 Census Hyperlesson- Engaging students, Supporting Communities
This Hyperdoc lesson is not only for student learning within our classroom walls, but is an effort to affect change in our actual communities. Some of our schools have many students that fall into historically undercounted populations and it is essential that as trusted community leaders, teachers put out the word about completing the Census and encouraging our communities to participate.

Through analysis of 3 documents created by the US Census Bureau and the state of California, students will learn the following:
*Why the Census is taken
*The impact of the Census on a state
*How people participate in the Census
*Confidentiality issues regarding the Census

In groups, students will:
*Create a printable digital poster promoting participation in the 2020 Census
*Display posters on campus during 2020 Census season and participate in completing the Census in their own households

Empowering Young Women to Produce and Direct Media that Shares Their Vision and Voice
The goal of this presentation is to provide teaching strategies to educators of any grade or subject level on how to encourage and motivate young women to feel confident in creating, producing and directing media projects that interest them. In my experience teaching video production and digital media, I've noticed that girls will literally take a step backward when it comes time to direct, work with camera equipment or edit a project, while young men take a step forward. By taking a step back, young women miss the chance to create stories that highlight their interests and voices. In this session, I will provide strategies and activities that educators can utilize to motivate and empower young woman to feel confident in taking risks and creating content that interests them. Testimonials from previous female students will be shared on the importance of taking risks and leading a production team.
